1ABOUT FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND GOLF ASSOCIATION
Historical Snapshot
- Formed 5th June 1927 at a meeting at The Strand Hotel in Cairns
- Inaugural President Mr S H Warner (Cairns Golf Club)
- Inaugural Secretary Treasurer Mr J Lennon (Cairns Golf Club)
- Clubs attending the inaugural meeting were Atherton, Cairns, Ravenshoe and Yungaburra with Innisfail not present and Mossman’s Delegates and players could not travel to Cairns due to unfavourable weather
- This meeting was predominately to form the Association under the direction of the Cairns Golf Club (and the draft Constitution and Rules they provided) and Cairns Golf Club proposed it be called the “Cairns and District Golf Association” however this was opposed by the Yungaburra, Atherton and Ravenshoe Delegates and the name of Far North Queensland Golf Association was agreed and settled upon as a compromise.
- The FNQGA was originally formed to control and manage golf from Innisfail north.
